Today’s Disney news is bittersweet for Aladdin fans.
The Mouse House is developing an Aladdin prequel to be called Genies, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The live-action comedy adventure will tell “the story of Aladdin, a street urchin who finds a lamp that unleashes a Genie who grants him three wishes. A love interest and a sorcerer also figure into the proceedings,” says THR.
Disney has been digging into its vault as of late. The studio successfully released a live-action Cinderella this year, has Jon Favreau’s The Jungle Book slated for April 2016 and has announced plans for live-action remakes of Pinocchio, Beauty And The Beast, Mulan, Dumbo and Tinkerbell.
The new Aladdin film, which is currently in early stages of development, will focus on the realm of the Genies and reveal how Aladdin’s Genie ended up enslaved in the lamp.
