Lawyers from Jaffna district, who met the Justice Minister Mr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakse in Jaffna on Tuesday urged the government to release all the Tamil political prisoners in the jails without looking at their cases through criminal or legal procedures.
Speaking to the Lawyers Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakse said that the Attorney Generals (AG) Department’s special group is considering the release of some of the Tamil detainees, where there are no serious charges, no credible evidence. And others, in whatever possible case, will be given bail, both in High Court and the Magistrate Court.
Apart from that “they will also have a separate court, just to finish all those cases as soon as possible.”
